Green electricity at the Wuppertal site: HUEHOCO reduces its CO2 footprint

Since this year, HUEHOCO has switched completely to electricity from renewable sources at its Wuppertal site. From now on, energy partner SCHOLTenergy will provide the annual purchase volumes of 3,000 MWh from a mix of solar, wind and biomass sources as well as European onshore wind power plants.

CO2-neutral footprint
“We think long-term and strive to produce in a way that conserves resources and thus keeps the impact on future generations as low as possible,” emphasizes Managing Director Dr. Mark Herriger. This means that the Wuppertal-based company has achieved almost 100% neutrality of itsCO2 footprint in Scope 1 and Scope 2. Scope 1 refers to direct emissions and Scope 2 to indirect emissions.

Advantages for customers too
This benefits not only future generations and our environment, but also HUEHOCO customers. “As the supplier of the primary material, we reduce theCO2 value right at the start of the supply chain,” explains Dr. Herriger. This is particularly important for customers in view of the EU Green Deal. The Green Deal envisages that the EU will become climate-neutral by 2050. To achieve this, the individual member states will have to implement numerous measures, which must of course also be complied with by private companies. “This change process is so comprehensive for us and the environment in which we work that we can speak of a TRANSFORMAL CHANGE in our way of thinking, living and working,” says partner AndrĂ© Bovenkamp.

Goals and cooperation
In this context, HUEHOCO has set itself ambitious goals. The aim is to reduce annual natural gas consumption in the coating process through more effective and optimized work processes. In addition, theCO2 reduction requirements regarding carrier tape and coating materials are passed on to the suppliers. The company’s own photovoltaic systems are also currently being examined and concepts for implementation from 2025 are being developed for the Wuppertal site. In order to implement these measures in the best possible way, HUEHOCO works together with proven environmental experts such as the NRW Efficiency Agency, the Wuppertal Environmental Authority and the NRW Ministry of the Environment. HUEHOCO is also certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14.001 and 50.001 and operates an integrated energy management system, and since this year HUEHOCO has switched completely to electricity from renewable energy sources at its Wuppertal site. From now on, energy partner SCHOLTenergy will provide the annual purchase volumes of 3,000 MWh from a mix of solar, wind and biomass sources as well as European onshore wind power plants.
